Philosophies on Philanthropy
October 15, 2012 CommentsRecently I read this article from the Wall Street Journal on the recommendation of a family friend who knows my interest and experience in both business and philanthropy. As a graduate from a corporate-minded business program, my decision to pursue a career in the non-profit sector while my peers were eyeing investment banks and packaged good companies was a departure from the norm. This became all the more apparent when I got my first job at the Children's Aid Foundation in Toronto and was surrounded by colleagues and executives with backgrounds in the arts and social services. While their hearts were always in the right place, I couldn't help but feel that the organization would have been more efficient, and therefore more successful, if there had been some more business acumen at the table.

Videum
August 13, 2012 CommentsAt a meeting last week we heard about Videum, a new online video-sharing platform targeted at the health sector that provides captioning, translating and subtitling for videos. Essentially it allows users to easily share this media in any language, which is extremely appealing to our client as they already publish some of their resources in multiple languages, normally at great cost. We were really excited to hear about this service because multi-language needs is something we're hearing about more and more from clients these days, and not just from the health sector.

Responsive Web Design
April 5, 2012 CommentsColin, my esteemed colleague and Raised Eyebrow's Senior Developer, linked to a great article on Twitter last week about responsive web design.
It really struck a chord with us here in the office as it's something we've been thinking about more and more in recent months. Whereas before it was a 'want', it's quickly becoming a 'need' for our clients. Though many of our existing client sites already show pretty well on mobile devices, we are beginning to think about this earlier in our process rather than have it be an afterthought.
Stay tuned for further posts on this topic and to see future sites designed and built with mobile responsiveness in mind! -
Reading List
April 3, 2012 CommentsI know it's a short week - which for many means squeezing 5 days of work into 4 - but on the off chance you've got some time on your hands (or over the long weekend if you're so inclined) I wanted to share some interesting reads that I've come across in the last week or so:

Ready or not - the new Facebook timeline format
March 14, 2012 CommentsAlthough we haven't mentioned non-profit tech guru Beth Kanter much here in the past (in fact I checked – we did only once and it was in 2008) her blog is definitely one that's always on our radar. Beth is a frequent contributor to nonprofit technology websites, blogs and magazines and she knows her stuff. So when Beth talks, we should all listen!
In a recent post on her blog, Beth and guest blogger Nancy Schwartz talk about the new Facebook timeline format and how to make the most of it for your organization. The format is optional at the moment (see Beth's profile using it here) but were you aware that on March 30th ALL Facebook pages will be transitioned to timeline?
