Enterprising Non-Profits

The nonprofit and business sectors are increasingly learning from one another, and social enterprises are one example of this “meeting of the minds”; business ventures operated by nonprofits, social enterprises offer unique opportunities for nonprofit organizations to generate income, share their expertise, and provide employment opportunities for stakeholders who might otherwise have difficulty finding meaningful jobs.

More and more nonprofits are embracing the social enterprise model, but there are few resources available to those seeking information and advice on how to get started. Enter Enterprising Non-Profits (enp), a BC-based program that helps local nonprofits start or expand a business via matching grants and capacity-building. As one of the only programs of its kind in Canada, enp also wanted to provide an information and resource guide via its website, to help support the growth of social enterprises across the country.

Because social enterprise is a new concept to many in the nonprofit sector, it was important that the website offer several ways for visitors to familiarize themselves with it. Above and beyond the written copy, we worked in space for case studies, conference and event info, and even a marketplace where visitors can search a database of social enterprises.

With a CMS from Pencilneck Software, enp is able to manage all their website content in-house, from conference info to email newsletters.
