Manitoba Forage Council

What in the world might a “Forage Council” do? You may well ask. In brief, “forage” refers to plants grown in grazing pastures for livestock. The Forage Council promotes best practices in forage to Manitoba farmers, helping them develop forage crops for export, manage the environmental impacts of grazing for their own livestock, and more.

They came to us with two major challenges:

  • Their existing site, though beautiful, didn't speak to their audience, which consisted mainly of family farmers.
  • They had no way to manage their own site updates, and as a result the site was often out of date.

With our target audience — a familiar one to Lauren, our designer, whose family farms in northern Ontario — firmly in mind, we developed a new design that marries crisp photography with a “down-home” feel. And we partnered with Loca Lola Design Group to install a CMS that makes it easy for the Forage Council to edit the site, add upcoming events (like their annual Grazing School), or upload newsletters.
