Coding & Development

Of all the things we’re proud of here at Raised Eyebrow, we just might be proudest of our code. That’s because the code we produce reflects many of the values we hold dear, such as quality, accessibility, and flexibility.

You might be wondering how HTML code can do all that. Here’s how:

  • We meticulously hand-code every web site we build. Sure, we use software to make our process more efficient, but in the end we find humans can perform more reliable quality control than even the best software. We’re also more flexible and better able to gauge the best coding solution to suit each project.
  • We are wholeheartedly committed to web standards, which means we embrace a philosophy of creating accessible, fast-loading pages, with an eye to clean code and future compatibility (so you won’t need to rebuild your web site every time a new browser is released).
  • We use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to control the design and layout of your web site. CSS-based design has a number of advantages over traditional layout methods, including faster download times, lower bandwidth costs, easier access for visitors using screen readers (such as people with visual impairments), and better search engine indexing. It can also save you on maintenance costs.
  • We code for contingencies, making sure that if your site’s visitors arrive with images turned off or javaScript disabled, they can still use your web site to its fullest capacity. We consider how the site will look like for colourblind visitors, for people with small (or large) monitors, and when it’s printed. In short, we make sure everyone who comes to your site can enjoy it independent of their technology preferences.
  • We write search-engine-friendly code, so your web site is indexed easily and accurately.
  • We test our web sites rigorously, ensuring they pass industry-standard validation tests, and that they work on all modern browsers. And we make sure to keep emerging technologies in mind, so your web site works for people using handheld devices and WebTV.

The end result is code that the geeks of the world (and we count ourselves among them) find really kind of beautiful. And that will serve as a solid backbone for your web site for years to come.

Key deliverables:

  • Beta site production
  • Testing and quality assurance
