Website Design

Here at Raised Eyebrow, we are profoundly inspired by our clients. Some are changing the face of healthcare; some are creating things of beauty; others are fighting the environmental good fight. Each of these missions has great value.

Your creative, intelligent work deserves to be presented in a package that honours it. That’s where design comes in.

There are two design principles we prize highly:

  • If it doesn’t work, it isn’t beautiful.
  • The most effective design solutions are client- and user-focused.

To see some examples of our designs in action, please visit our portfolio.

As for the former: Beatrice Warde once wrote that good typography was like a crystal goblet — that the best vessel for wine allows you to see the wine clearly, rather than obscuring it with elaborate engraving and tinted glass. Our web design philosophy aligns with Ms. Warde’s views on type: we believe that good design helps you get where you want to go, and do what you want to do, efficiently and smoothly. That’s especially true today, when people have less and less patience for roadblocks to the information they’re seeking.

“It was so easy to find what I was looking for” is, we feel, the highest of compliments.

Now, as for the second principle: Our design process is highly collaborative. We encourage your feedback and involvement. We believe the perspective you have on your constituents is invaluable. It’s our job to listen to you and understand the message you need to communicate before we begin applying our skills as interface designers.

We have extensive experience in creating beautiful, elegant, and usable web site designs. We’re great listeners, and we ask good questions. We care about details. And we love our clients. Now that’s a recipe for great design.

We begin every design process with an in-depth discussion about your communication goals: your message, your target audience, and what you want them to do when they come to your web site. We’ll make sure we thoroughly understand the purpose of the web site, its relationship to your overall mission, your values, and your communication style. We’ll look at other web sites together and talk about what works for you and what doesn’t.

Only then will we move on to creating a unique, custom design solution that puts your message, and your audience, first. And as we move through the design process, refining the design into its final form, we will continue to revisit the answers to those core questions we discussed at that first meeting, to ensure we stay true the goals we set out.

We’ll know we’ve arrived at the ideal design when it looks gorgeous and easy to use.
